THE ORGO NIGHT TRADITION: The Columbia University Pep Band decided to invade and momentarily occupied the major undergrad degree central library in Butler Library at nightfall before the Organic Chemistry assessment test on the first day of final exams—in one of the school’s oldest traditions, starting in 1975, to distract and amuse studying student teachers with about 45 minutes of boisterous gags as well as songs, beginning and concluding with the songs of the uni’s fight song, “Roar, Lion, Roar.” [260] The Band led a cortege to the many campus locations, as well as the residential courtyard of Barnard College, for more music and a brief reprieve from the pressure of last-minute studying after the main performance in front of a crowd that regularly began trying to fill the space well ahead of declared night time start time.

THE VARSITY SHOW: One amongst Columbia’s ancient cultures, The Varsity Show is just a yearly musical produced by and for students. It was first held in 1894. Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, Lorenz Hart, I.A.L. Diamond, Herman Wouk, and Eric Garcetti are all former authors & executives from Columbia. One of all the academic conferences with the highest general fund is the entertainment.

TREE LIGHTING AND YULE LOG CEREMONIES: In 1998, the first campus tree lighting event took place. In early December, just before finals week, it commemorates the lighting of such intermediate tree branches enclosing College Walk next to Kent Hall & Hamilton Hall upon that east side and Dodge Hall and Pulitzer Hall somewhat on west.

Morningside Heights:
On the Morningside Heights campus that Seth Low envisioned for a college campus in which all practises could be educated at one location in the late 19th century, the large number of Columbia’s undergraduate and master’s programmes are held. The designers McKim, Mead & White planned the campus using Beaux-Arts design principles.
The central campus of Columbia University is located in Morningside Heights, an area of the city with a plethora of educational institutions, and it spans more than six parts of the city, or 32 acres. In Morningside Heights, the campus owns more than 7,800 residences that are home to staff, doctoral students, and teaching staff.
On college or in Morningside Heights, there are nearly two dozen dorms for undergraduate students. The ancient sections of Columbia University’s comprehensive tunnel network date back further than a millennium and predate the current campus. Among the biggest campus structures seems to be the Nicholas Murray Butler Library, also known as the Butler Library.
It serves as the single largest library inside the Columbia University Library. As proposals for Low Memorial Library’s growth stagnated, Nicholas Murray Butler, the institution’s former president, suggested calling the new library “South Hall.” Edward Harkness, a supporter of Yale’s residential higher education system, provided the funding, and James Gamble Rogers, Harkness’ preferred architect, constructed the brand-new library.
It was finished in 1934 and given the Butler renaming in 1946. The techno layout of the library is evident. The names of famous authors, intellectuals, and thinkers, the majority of whom Columbia University students read, are enshrined above a row of Archways that make up its illusion. With over 15.0 million books since about 2020, Columbia University’s library system is the fifth largest co – curricular academic libraries system in the country and the eighth-largest nationwide.

In Manhattanville, a manufacturing area towards the north of Morningside Heights campus, the university bought over two-thirds of a 17acre (6.9 ha) site in April 2007 for a main campus. Columbia University’s Business School, Academy of International and Public Affairs, Columbia School of the Arts, and the Jerome L. Greene Centre for Psyche, Brain, and Behaviour, which will conduct research on neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, are all housed in dwellings in Columbia Manhattanville, which stretches from 125th Street to 133rd Street.

A self-governing, federally financed, and non -sectarian university of higher learning is Columbia University.
