This season will likewise include ten teams, with each club playing seven home games and the same number of away games during their 14-match league cycle.
Four clubs will qualify for the postseason. While the top two teams will have a second chance to qualify for the finals, the third and fourth place teams will play an Eliminator game to gain a berth in the second qualifier, where they will face the loser of Q1.
IPL Points Table 2023 Rules
Each of the 10 IPL franchises’ primary objective is to finish in the top four of the points table following their 14 league-stage matches.
The secondary objective is to finish in the top two, as the top two teams have an additional chance to qualify for the IPL Finals.
The IPL points table is determined by the points accumulated by each club. If two teams finish with the same number of points, their standing in the standings is determined by their “Net Run Rate.” (NRR).
A team receives one point if the game is abandoned or unexpectedly ends as No Result.
A team will receive no points for a loss.
Regarding the ‘Net Run Rate,’ it is used to decide the final place of the teams in the event that many teams finish with identical point totals.
The NRR of a team is determined by subtracting the number of runs scored relative to the number of overs faced from the number of runs conceded relative to the number of overs bowled in the same competition.
IPL Standings Trivias
No team has ever qualified for the Playoffs with fewer than 12 points in IPL history.
Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Deccan Chargers (now defunct) are the only two teams to have accumulated a total of four points throughout an IPL season, the fewest points of any franchise.
Kolkata Knight Riders and (now defunct) Deccan Chargers are the only teams that have never been in first place in the Indian Premier League Points table but still won the competition.
The Delhi Daredevils (now the Delhi Capitals) are the only team in IPL history to finish first in the IPL points table without winning the championship. They have performed the action three times.
IPL 2020 concluded with two sets of three teams tied on the same number of points. (Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders were tied on 14 while Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were tied on 12 each).
In the 2010 Indian Premier League, four teams matched with 14 points apiece: Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The greatest NRR achieved by any club at the conclusion of the league stage is +1.107 by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2020, while the lowest is -1.436 by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the IPL 2015.
During a single IPL season, a team can earn a maximum of 22 points. It was accomplished in 2008 by Rajasthan Royals, 2012 by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), 2013 by Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, and 2014 by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).
In IPL 2022, the Mumbai Indians finished tenth for the first time in franchise history.
What does for/against score points in the IPL Points Table mean?
The ‘for’ column represents the total runs scored and wickets lost by that team over the whole IPL season, while the ‘against’ column represents the total runs conceded and wickets taken by that side for the entire IPL season.
What is NRR in IPL Standings?
NRR stands for Net Run Rate. The NRR of a team is determined by subtracting the number of runs scored relative to the number of overs faced from the number of runs conceded relative to the number of overs bowled in the same competition.
How to calculate the net run rate in the IPL Table?
As previously stated, the Net Run Rate of a team is computed as the difference between ‘the number of runs scored by the team in relation to the number of overs faced’ and ‘the number of runs conceded by the team in relation to the number of overs bowled’ in the same event.
How many points are needed to qualify in the IPL Points Table?
There is no fixed point need to qualify for the Playoffs. To advance to the following round, a team must be among the top four in the points table.
Which teams have finished last on the points table in each IPL?
